ALEX BLACK
Alex Black is a Director and Photographer originally from Montreal, who now lives between Paris & New York. Aesthetically, her work is driven by a strong sense of colour reminiscent of previous eras, and influenced by an upbringing spent immersed in different cultures. Fascinated with the vibrancy of youth culture, and fashion as a tool for self expression, Alex’s work takes these inspirations and strives to re-contextualize both the current and historical. Duality is a vital, and unifying theme present throughout her work—masculinity vs femininity, classic vs modern, fantasy vs documentary. Alex also takes reference from the visual language of abstract art, and is interested in capturing the shapes and forms present in urbanscapes in a manner that’s informed by the same sensibilities and art direction as her portraiture.
Her clients include Off-White, Milk Makeup and Obama’s MBKA foundation. Publications include i-D, Vogue Italia, Teen Vogue, L’Officiel USA, Paper Magazine and SHOWstudio. She has had shows at Red Hook Labs, as well as Theory’s flagship store, and was awarded the PDN’s 2017 Emerging Photographer award.
ALLIE YONICK
Allie Yonick is a director and screenwriter from Toronto. Having established herself within the world of filmmaking as a stylist, she was exposed to the intricacies of shooting for commercial clients and editorial platforms alike, absorbing knowledge that would later be foundational in bringing her own creative visions to life. In working closely with renowned directors, a new fascination was sparked. Evincing her innately detail oriented eye in the fashion world allowed for a smooth transition, propelling her to direct her early fashion films for publications such as Dazed and Confused, i-D Magazine, Purple Fashion Magazine, and Schön Magazine.
Allie is a true storyteller who is venturing into fiction. She is currently writing a short film that she will be shooting in 2019.
